Cavanaugh Shoots Brandywine Record 74 At Ursinus
LIMERICK, Pa. – Matt Cavanaugh (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) shot an 18-hole score of 74 to set a new Penn State Brandywine record-low round during the Ursinus Spring Awakening at Turtle Creek Golf Club on Thursday afternoon. As a team, Brandywine placed fifth in the nine-squad field.
Cavanaugh broke his own team record of 75, which he shared with former teammate Zak Karlton, that he set in the fall on the same course at the Ursinus Fall Invitational. Cavanaugh's round included three birdies and 11 pars as he shot two-over-par to tie for fourth in the 48-player field. He was +1 on the front nine holes and remained one-over through 15. Cavanaugh produced a birdie on the par-four 17th and needed just a par to break the record heading to 18, which he successfully recorded.
As a team, Brandywine totaled a four-player total of 322 strokes. Drew University claimed the team title in 295 shots.
Eric Angle (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was even through 10 holes before finishing with a personal-best round of 79. Angle tied for 14th place, individually.
Brady Foytack (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) collected 83 strokes, while Steven Kimmel's (Avondale, Pa.) round included birdies on the par-four fifth and 16th holes as he carded an 86. Joseph Koehler (Chadds Ford, Pa./Garnet Valley) rounded out the Lions by shooting 107.
Ursinus' Billy Breslin and Drew's Elliot Parker captured individual medalist honors by recording a one-under-par rounds of 71.
