Brandywine Tied For Fifth Following UEC Championship First Round
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine is tied for fifth place following the first 18 holes of the 36-hole United East Conference Golf Championship, which is being played at Chambersburg Country Club Friday and Saturday.
The Lions and Lancaster Bible produced identical four-man scores of 346 strokes. Penn College leads the nine-team pack at 324 strokes, while Penn State Berks (336) is second and Penn State Harrisburg and Rutgers-Camden are tied for third (338).
Eric Angle (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) birdied two of his final three holes to move into a tie for fourth place, individually. Angle produced a round of 80 to match Peyton Mussina of Penn College, the conference's defending champion.
Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) is tied for 16th after carding a round of 86. Coccia pared his final five holes and recorded nine pars overall on the day.
Matt Cavanaugh (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) completed his opening round in 89 strokes to tie for 22nd. His day was highlighted by a birdie on the par-three seventh hole.
Steven Kimmel (Avondale, Pa.) is two shots off Cavanaugh's pace with a round 91 after collecting five pars in six holes between the 9th and 14th holes, while Charlie Hughes (West Chester, Pa.) rounded out the Lions in 117 strokes.
Individually, Penn College's Will Orwig shot an even-par round of 73 to pace the 46-man field.
The final round of the United East Conference Championship beginning Saturday at 11:00 AM.
