Brandywine Finishes UEC Golf Championship In Seventh Place; Two Earn All-Conference Awards
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine golf team concluded its 2024-25 season with a seventh-place finish at the United East Conference Championship on Saturday. Eric Angle (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) and Matt Cavanaugh (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) earned all-conference awards for the Lions.
Angle finished with the fifth-lowest 36-hole score, totaling 161 strokes (80-81), to earn First Team All-United East honors. He is the first Brandywine student-athlete to earn a first team award from the United East. Angle recorded birdies on the par-five third and par-three 11th holes, while five of his six second-round pars came on the back nine.
Cavanaugh claimed Third Team All-United East accolades following his 19th-place showing. He finished the front nine with five consecutive pars before recording a birdie on the par-four 10th hole. Cavanaugh completed the second round in 85 strokes after registering an opening-round 89 on Friday.
Ty Coccia (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) carded an 18-hole count of 94 for a two-day total of 180 strokes as he finished in a tie for 29th place, while Steven Kimmel (Avondale, Pa.) coupled an opening-round 91 with a round of 99 Saturday for 190 strokes. Charlie Hughes (West Chester, Pa.) totaled 228 strokes (117-111).
Lancaster Bible's Jake Rotelle finished the second day with a one-over-par 74 to rally from five strokes back following the first round and win the individual title.
As a team, Brandywine placed seventh in the nine-squad field with a team total of 705 strokes. Penn College rolled to a third-straight conference title, besting second-place Penn State Berks by 21 strokes with a team count of 650 shots.
