Brandywine Opens Fall Slate At Pioneer Invitational
WAYNE, N.J. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's golf team got its fall season underway Tuesday afternoon at the Pioneer Fall Invitational hosted by William Paterson University. The Lions finished in ninth place in the 13-team field.
Matt Cavanaugh (Upper Darby, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) shot the Lions' low round on the day, totaling 81 strokes. Cavanaugh closed the front nine with four pars during the final five holes and notched a birdie on the par-four 14th hole to highlight his afternoon.
One shot off Cavanaugh's pace was Eddie Ricottone (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside), who was making his collegiate debut. Ricottone finished in a tie for 27th in the 77-player field.
Eric Angle's (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) round was highlighted by birdies on the par-five seventh and 18th holes as he carded an 84. Dominic Guzzo (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) totaled 92 strokes, while Carl Galantino (Media, Pa./Penncrest) posted a round of 100. Charlie Hughes (West Chester, Pa.) rounded out the Lions in 133 strokes.
Stevens University topped the 13-team field by a combined total of 303 shots. Brandywine's four-man squad recorded a team count of 339. Kean's Logan Perrone won a three-way tiebreaker for individual medalist honors after shooting a round of 73.
