ASTON, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine senior right-hander Tyler Michaels (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) threw his second complete-game shutout in the last seven days as the Lions opened conference baseball play with a 5-0 victory over Penn State Schuylkill Friday evening.

Michaels struck out 10 Schuylkill hitters, his second consecutive double-figure strikeout performance, while scattering five hits, all singles, over nine innings on the mound. Michaels, who fanned at least one hitter in every frame but the eighth, retired 10 of Schuylkill's final 11 batters from the sixth inning on.

Brandywine's bats backed Michaels with all the offense he would need in the first inning, scoring three times. Sean Donahue (Ridley, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led off with a double, moved to third on Joe Hurley's (Downingtown, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) base hit and scored on a groundout by Joey Buoni (Chester Heights, Pa./Salesianum). Hurley crossed home with the second run on a wild pitch, while Buoni scored when Ben Mutz (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) grounded out to short.

The score remained the same until the sixth inning when Brian Reynolds (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) delivered an RBI single, scoring Buoni, and Reynolds and Mutz executed a double steal, with Mutz crossing home for the Lions' final run.

Reynolds went 2-for-4 at the plate and recorded one of Brandywine's seven stolen bases to lead the Lions offensively.

Brandywine (9-6, 1-0 PSUAC) will play a doubleheader at Schuylkill on Tuesday, rather than playing at Eastern University at previously scheduled. The Lions' game at Schuylkill and at Wilkes University have been postponed this weekend.
