Ice Hockey Hosts DVCHC Semifinals Sunday

MEDIA, Pennsylvania -- The Penn State Brandywine ice hockey team claimed the Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference regular-season championship and will host the league's tournament semifinals Sunday at Ice Works in Aston.

Brandywine, led by Head Coach Paul Gilligan, is making its 12th consecutive appearance in the DVCHC Tournament. The Lions will face the lowest-seeded team remaining after Saturday's quarterfinal round on Rink 4 at 6:00 pm.

The Lions claimed the regular-season crown and No. 1 seed after finishing the 2014-15 campaign with a record of 14-3-0-1. Brandywine won its final three games and six of its last seven.

Freshman Jonathan Thompson leads the team in scoring with 33 goals and 25 assists, while senior Brandon Benn owns 42 total points (18G, 24A). Senior net minder Andrew Hieber has started every game, accumulating a 2.83 goals-against average and .915 save percentage.

A victory on Sunday would send the Lions to the DVCHC Championship, a three-game series beginning February 20.

Tickets to Sunday's game are $5 for adults, while children age 13 and under will be admitted free of charge.
