Abington Upends Brandywine 3-0
ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team dropped its second-straight United East Conference match, falling 3-0 (16-25, 18-25, 16-25) at Penn State Abington on Thursday night.
Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) paced the Lions' offense with 11 assists, while Emma O'Reilly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) both collected five kills. O'Reilly and Morgan Rizer (Denton, Md./North Caroline) each set down two service aces.
Britney Howell (Newark, Del./Delcastle Tech) notched a team-best 12 digs. Aaliyna Patel (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) added nine digs, while Ramirez and Jezyk both produced eight.
Abington scored the first six points of the match and after Brandywine trimmed the margin to three, the hosts scored eight of the final 12 points to claim the opening set.
Consecutive Abington errors brought Brandywine within 8-7 during set No. 2 before Abington used a 6-1 run to build a six-point edge. A kill and two aces from Rizer later cut the margin to 21-16, but Brandywine would not get closer, dropping the second set 25-18.
The Lions claimed a 5-1 edge to begin the third set; however, Abington quickly tied the count at 5-all and used a 10-2 surge to pull away with the final frame.
Brandywine (2-12, 0-2 United East) travels to Washington D.C., on Saturday for a tri-match at United East foe Gallaudet (12:00 PM). The Lions will also face Trinity D.C. at 2:00 PM.
