LANCASTER, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the season on Saturday, falling in three sets against Lancaster Bible (11-25, 21-25, 17-25) and Arcadia (18-25, 15-25, 16-25). Junior setter Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) recorded the 1,000th assist of her three-year career against Lancaster Bible.
Match One: Lancaster Bible 3, Penn State Brandywine 0
Jezyk handed out 17 assists to become the third setter in program history to reach the 1,000-assist mark.
Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) notched six kills and eight digs, while Hailey Piccirillo (Broadlands, Va./Virginia Academy) tallied four kills. Ava De La Osa (Dania Beach, Fla./Nova) collected a team-high 15 digs and Emmalin Molinaro (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) added 10 digs and a team-high three service aces.
LBC scored 10 of the first 11 points of the match and eased to a 25-11 victory in the first set. Brandywine led for much of the second set until the Chargers used a 7-1 run to take the lead. Back-to-back kills from Ramirez and Piccirillo brought Brandywine within 23-21, but LBC answered with consecutive kills to claim the set. Lancaster Bible used seven-straight points to open up a 12-point edge during the final frame. The Lions narrowed the gap to seven points late in the set, but could not get any closer.
Match Two: Arcadia 3, Penn State Brandywine 0
Brandywine was within two at 10-8 following a kill from Ramirez, but Arcadia took control of the opening set by scoring the next six points. The Lions trimmed the margin to six on three occasions before the Knights claimed a 1-0 edge by winning the opening set 25-18.
Brandywine held a 7-4 lead early during set No. 2, but Arcadia rallied with an 8-1 spurt and pulled away late to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Lions answered a 10-1 Arcadia run with five of the next six points to cut their third-set deficit to 16-14; however, Arcadia recorded nine of the final 10 points to win the match in straight sets.
Ramirez recorded seven of Brandywine's 11 kills during the final match of her four-year career. She tallied 656 kills and 671 digs during 86 matches with the Lions. Fellow seniors Katie Snyder (Wilmington, Del./Dickinson) and Lexie Berry (Brookhaven, Pa./Daegu) also played their final matches for the Lions.
Molinaro tallied a team-high eight digs, while De La Osa chipped in seven digs.
