Brandywine Delivers Senior Day Sweep
MEDIA, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine volleyball team swept the University of Valley Forge 3-0 (25-7, 25-10, 25-17) to celebrate Senior Day and earn its second-straight United East Conference victory on Saturday afternoon.
Kills by Hailey Piccirillo (Broadlands, Va./Virginia Academy), Emma O'Reilly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Katie Snyder (Wilmington, Del./Dickinson) highlighted a 7-1 run to open the match. Morgan Rizer's (Denton, Md./North Caroline) kill later extended the margin to 15-4 and the Lions ran away with the set by scoring seven-straight points.
The Patriots hung around during the set frame, trailing just 15-10 before Brandywine erupted for the final 10 points of the set. Piccirillo added another kill, while Laura Jezyk (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) set down four service aces.
The Lions held a 10-9 edge during the final set before reeling off four consecutive points. The visitors closed within three, but Rizer and Jezyk tallied aces and Anna Ramirez (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) tacked on a kill as Brandywine closed with five of the final six points to complete the sweep.
Jezyk and Sophie Scrivo (Chester, Conn./Valley Regional) both tallied eight assists and six aces, while Ramirez and Piccirillo tied for the team lead with five kills each.
O'Reilly added four kills and matched Emmalin Molinaro (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) and Ava De La Osa (Dania Beach, Fla./Nova) with a team-high five digs. Piccirillo notched three solo blocks and four overall.
Brandywine (5-13, 2-3 United East) will be on the road Tuesday at Wilson (7:00 PM).
