MEDIA, Pa. -- St. Mary's (Md.), the defending United East Conference champion, scored twice during each half and downed the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
St. Mary's' Jack Nelson squeezed a shot just inside the post for the match's first goal at the 9:42 mark and the Seahawks doubled their lead with another marker just before the half.
The Seahawks owned a four-goal edge when Kyle Reuter (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) got Brandywine on the board in the 63rd minute. Reuter drove a free kick around the St. Mary's wall and just inside the right post for his first goal of the season.
Brandywine put five shots on goal overall, but Seahawks' goalkeeper Zack Reed made four stops to hold off the Lions. Dakari Burton (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) led the Lions with a pair of shots.
Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) and Will Manarpaac (Boerne, Texas/Samuel V. Champion) split time in net for Brandywine. DeBooth stopped four shots, while Manarpaac made three saves.
Brandywine (3-7-3, 0-4 United East) will be on the road Wednesday when the Lions face Gallaudet at 7:30 PM.
