Brandywine Plays SUNY ESF To 1-1 Draw

MEDIA, Pa. -- For the second time in three matches this fall, the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team had to rally in the second half to earn a draw as the Lions tied SUNY ESF 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions conceded the match's first goal during the 21st minute, but goalkeeper Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) stopped two shots during the final 24 minutes of the period to keep Brandywine within one.

Brandywine struck for the game-tying score early in the second half off the foot of Omar Simpson (Bear, Del./Christiana). Francis Sarpong (Germantown, Md./Northwest) knocked a ball into the box, finding Simpson, who eluded a pair of defenders before finding the top left corner of the net at the 58:48 mark.

Both teams had opportunities to score during the ensuing 30 minutes as DeBooth needed to make three stops and offensive chances from Ray Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and Samir Khadka (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) were thwarted.

DeBooth made six saves overall to move his record to 1-0-2 this season, while Sam Tymeson blocked two shots for the Mighty Oaks.

Brandywine (1-0-2) will begin a three-game road trip Wednesday night at Widener (7:00 PM).
