Brandywine Closes Out Regular Season With 2-1 Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine's two first-half goals were enough to claim a 2-1 victory over visiting Lancaster Bible as the teams closed out the United East Conference men's soccer regular season on Friday afternoon.

With the victory, Brandywine has clinched a top-eight seed in the United East Tournament and will host a first-round match on Wednesday, October 30.

The Lions made the most of their two first-half shots, scoring goals during the 23rd and 43rd minutes.

Ray Kelly (Middletown, Del./Middletown) got the scoring started when he headed home Kyle Reuter's (York, Pa./Dallastown Area) corner kick. Twenty minutes later, Antonio Marcelo (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) and Daraki Burton (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) linked up to double the Lions' lead.

Marcelo blocked a Lancaster Bible attempt to clear from its own box and the ball deflected to Burton, who beat Chargers' goalkeeper Chris Jackson with a low line drive to make the count 2-0.

Lancaster Bible got one goal back in the 57th minute, but the Lions did not allow the Chargers to muster the tying goal. The Chargers put two more shots on goal and both were turned aside by Brandywine keeper Elijah DeBooth (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson).

DeBooth stopped five of the six shots he faced to earn his sixth win of the fall. The Lions totaled four shots with two coming off the foot of Marcelo.

Brandywine will learn its first round opponent on Saturday evening when the remaining United East Conference regular-season matches have concluded.
