ASTON, Pa. -- Anna Maria College pitchers fired a pair of shutouts as the AMCATS claimed both ends of a Sunday non-conference doubleheader against the Penn State Brandywine baseball team by scores of 2-0 and 8-0.
Game One: Anna Maria 2, Penn State Brandywine 0
The opening game was scoreless entering the sixth inning before Anna Maria struck for a pair of runs. The AMCATS received a pair of run-scoring doubles following a leadoff single to plate the two markers.
Liam Nugent (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) got the start on the mound for the Lions and fired four no-hit innings. He recorded three strikeouts and allowed just three baserunners via a pair of walks and an error. Logan Bartels (Cooper City, Fla./Cooper City) worked out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the seventh by getting a strikeout and tallied a scoreless inning of relief.
Brandywine's best scoring threat of the game came during the bottom of the first inning as Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) worked a one-out walk and moved to third on Nate Turner's (Dover, Del./Dover) double. The pair were left stranded on the bases following back-to-back strikeouts.
Turner collected two of Brandywine's four hits in game one.
Game Two: Anna Maria 8, Penn State Brandywine 0
Two Anna Maria pitchers combined to bring a no-hitter into the final frame before a leadoff two-base hit from Turner broke up the no-hit bid.
The AMCATS plated a pair of first inning runs before busting the game open with six runs on five hits two innings later.
Turner tallied the lone knock for the Lions, while Mike DeGirolamo (Frederick, Md./Frederick) walked twice in three plate appearances.
In his collegiate debut, Gianni Serenelli (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) spun 3.1 frames of scoreless relief. He struck out one, while yielding just three hits. For the second-straight day, Noah Walker (Bremen, Ga./Bremen) tossed a 1-2-3 inning and collected one strikeout.
Brandywine (1-3) hosts Delaware Valley on Tuesday at Maple Zone with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 PM.
