Brandywine Drops 8-5 Decision To Notre Dame

ASTON, Pa. -- Notre Dame of Maryland scored during each of the first six innings and handed the Penn State Brandywine baseball team an 8-5, non-conference defeat on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lions matched the Gator's first inning run with a marker during the bottom of the frame as Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) led off with a triple and scored on Shawn Webb's (Drexel Hill, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) ground ball.

The next five innings belonged to Notre Dame as the Gators scored seven-straight runs to build an 8-1 edge.

Brandywine got four runs back in the seventh. Miguel Rodriguez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) singled in Jamey Massung (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola), who doubled to start the frame, and Snyder followed with a sacrifice fly. Two batters later, Nate Turner (Dover, Del./Dover) lined a two-run single into left field, cutting the margin to 8-5.

The Lions were unable to get any closer against Gators' pitcher Rhys Eder, who recorded the final eight outs to earn the save.

Brandywine collected 11 hits, including two-hit efforts from Snyder, Turner and Massung. Snyder also stole a base and scored a run.

Liam Nugent (Stafford, Va./Mountain View), Gianni Serenelli (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) and Nate Romberger (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen School), three of eight Brandywine pitchers to toe the rubber on Tuesday, all tossed one inning of scoreless relief.

Brandywine will play a road game for the first time in 2025 on Thursday when the Lions visit Cairn at 3:30 PM.
