Brandywine Offense Overpowers Albright In Sweep

READING, Pa. – Penn State Brandywine scored 22 runs on 36 hits during a non-conference softball doubleheader sweep at Albright on Monday afternoon. The Lions won by scores of 11-1 and 11-3 (five innings).

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 11, Albright 1

Brandywine produced a season-high 22 hits to run away with an 11-1 victory in game one.

Ava Craddock (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) recorded the eighth five-hit game in program history to lead the Lions' hit parade. Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) added four hits and four runs scored, while Jordan DuBois (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) went 3-for-4 at the plate. Shelby DeCillis (Iselin, N.J./Colonia) and Madie Culbertson (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) both collected a pair of knocks.

Bussenger singled, stole second and scored on Kaylee Mushinski's (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) groundout to put Brandywine on the board in the first inning.

The Lions upped the lead to 4-0 through two frames as Quinn Rosario (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) lifted a sacrifice fly and Mushinski and Craddock tallied run-scoring singles.

Craddock tacked on another RBI base hit in the fourth, while DeCillis doubled in Craddock with a double in the sixth.

Brandywine put the game away with four more runs in the seventh. DuBois scored Gigi Duca (Bear, Del./Smyrna) with a triple and Rosario, Craddock and DeCillis collected RBI singles.

Mushinski and Craddock both produced three RBI, while Bussenger stole two bases and DuBois scored a pair of runs.

April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) pitched all seven innings to earn her 11th victory of the season. She recorded a season-high eight strikeouts, while yielding one run on 10 hits.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 11, Albright 3 (5 innings)

Brandywine posted a run-rule shortened victory to finish off the sweep, winning 11-3 in five innings.

Emma McElroy (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) and Rosario both recorded RBI singles and McElroy scored via error to give Brandywine a 3-0 edge through one inning.

Mushinski added a two-run double during a three-run second frame before five more runs scored in the fifth.

Bussenger singled in Duca and McElroy followed with a RBI double before Mushinski knocked in both with a base hit.

Bussenger and McElroy both tallied three hits and three runs scored, while Mushinski, DeCillis and Duca all produced two hits. Mushinski totaled four RBI, while Anna Caporale (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) had a hit, one RBI and two runs scored.

DuBois made her pitching debut, striking out two, while allowing three runs in five innings to earn the win in the circle.

Brandywine (21-7, 7-1 UEC) hosts Wilson for a United East Conference doubleheader Wednesday at 3:00 PM.
