Brandywine Drops Final Matches Of Home Stand

MEDIA, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams were defeated by Penn State Berks to wrap up a three-match home stand on Saturday. Berks' men completed a 7-0 sweep, while the Brandywine women were defeated 5-2.

Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was a double winner as she posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles after teaming with Sydney Mabry (Washington, D.C./Jackson-Reed) to win 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Sofia Guzman (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Berchmans) provided Brandywine with its second point of the match after winning in straight sets at No. 4. She won by set scores of 6-0, 6-1.

Mabry and Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) both went to three sets during their respective singles bouts. Mabry rallied to win the second frame 7-6, but dropped the third set tiebreak 10-4, while Priemon claimed her opening set 7-5 before Berks' Devon Deery bounced back to claim the final two sets.

On the men's side, Mateo Torres (Upper Chichester, Pa./Chichester) won eight games, but was defeated 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. Von Nelson (Philadelphia, Pa./String Theory) and Patrick McGuire (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) both claimed three games during singles action before falling in straight sets.

The Brandywine women are back in action Wednesday at Notre Dame of Maryland (3:00 PM), while the men visit St. Mary's MD on Saturday (3:00 PM).
