LANCASTER, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams were defeated at Lancaster Bible during the regular-season finale for both teams on Saturday. The LBC men claimed a 7-0 triumph, while the Brandywine women fell 6-1.
Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) provided the lone point on either side for Brandywine. She claimed a No. 1 singles triumph in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-0.
Sydney Mabry (Washington, D.C./Jackson-Reed) and Madison Ferguson (Secane, Pa./Ridley) won their No. 3 doubles bout 6-4, but the Lions dropped the doubles point after LBC won at Nos. 1 and 2.
Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Sofia Guzman (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Berchmans) both won seven games during their respective singles matches. Priemon dropped a 4-6, 3-6 decision, while Guzman was defeated 6-7, 1-6.
For the Brandywine men, Mateo Torres (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) claimed 10 games, but fell by identical 5-7, 5-7 counts at No. 1 singles.
Patrick McGuire (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) pushed his fifth-flight singles bout to a deciding third set by winning the second frame 6-4 before dropping a 10-3 decision.
Brandywine's women's team has qualified for the United East Conference Tournament for the first time as the No. 7 seed and will visit No. 6 Penn State Berks in a first-round match Wednesday.
