Brandywine Drops Matches At Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's and women's tennis teams were both defeated at Cairn University on Tuesday as the women fell 5-2 and the men dropped a 7-0 decision.
 
Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) and Natalie DiMario (Clifton Heights, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) provided the points for the Brandywine women during singles action. Zahran, the defending United East Conference Player of the Week, claimed No. 1 singles by scores of 6-1, 6-1, while DiMario was also a straight-set winner, earning a point at No. 6 with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph.
 
Zahran also teamed with Sydney Mabry (Washington, D.C./Jackson-Reed) to win at No. 1 doubles by a 6-1 score. 
 
Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Mabry both went to three sets during their respective singles bouts before falling. Mabry won her opening frame 6-4 before dropping two-straight by 6-2 scores. Priemon won a first set tiebreak 7-3, dropped the second frame 6-1 and was outlasted by Cairn's Hajin Seo 13-11 in a third set tiebreaker.
 
For the Brandywine men, Mateo Torres (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) also went the distance during his No. 2 singles match. Torres rebounded from dropping the opening frame 3-6 to win the second set 6-1. He was topped 7-5 during the final frame.
 
Zairus Silverio (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) won six games at No. 4, but fell 6-7, 0-6.
 
Brandywine wraps up the regular season at Lancaster Bible Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM.
