Samma Zahran Named United East Women’s Tennis Player Of The Week

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine sophomore Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was named United East Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday morning.

Zahran went 2-1 in both singles and doubles action last week during Brandywine's three fall matches. She won both of her singles matches in straight sets, defeating Rutgers-Camden's Jillian Jaugan 6-3, 6-4 before rolling past Penn State Berks' Mia Aharonoff 6-0, 6-0.

In addition, Zahran and teammate Emma Kaplan (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) won doubles matches against Saint Vincent and Penn State Berks to complete the week.

Now in her second year at Brandywine, Zahran owns an 11-4 career singles record and has won six doubles matches in two seasons.

After concluding its fall slate, Brandywine will begin its first spring season as a member of the United East Conference in March. Brandywine's men's and women's tennis teams will be competing in a conference for the first time since 2011 after playing as independents for 12 seasons.
