Brandywine Falls In United East Quarterfinals

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Sixth-seeded Penn State Brandywine saw its season come to an end in the United East Conference Tournament quarterfinals following a 3-0 (15-25, 10-25, 14-25) defeat at No. 3 Lancaster Bible on Saturday afternoon.
 
Emma O'Reilly (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) notched a team-high four kills, while Shayla Howell (Newark, Del./St. George's Tech) and Emmalin Molinaro (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) both registered three. Howell also had a team-best eight assists.
 
Aaliyna Patel (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) led the Lions with eight digs, while O'Reilly tallied six and Morgan Rizer (Denton, Md./North Caroline) added five. Hailey Piccirillo (Broadlands, Va./Virginia Academy) totaled a team-high three blocks.
 
Brandywine used a 7-3 spurt to close within 19-15, but the Chargers netted the final six points to win the first set by a 25-15 count. The hosts controlled the second frame, pushing an early lead to 19-6 following a 10-1 surge and won the set going away, 25-10.
 
Seven consecutive points, including kills from O'Reilly and Howell and a Rizer ace gave Brandywine an 8-7 edge during the final set, but the Chargers answered with four of the next five points and would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
 
Making its first postseason appearance as a Division III member, Brandywine finished the season with a record of 12-12.
