Brandywine Comes Up Short In Tournament Consolation Game
SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team was downed by King's 74-52 in the consolation game of the Susquehanna University Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
A pair of three-pointers from Joey Brusha (Abington, Pa./Abington), a triple by Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) and a bucket from Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) gave the Lions an 11-3 edge less than three minutes into the game. The Monarchs answered with a 14-0 run and held the lead until the 8:25 mark when Brusha canned his third triple of the half, tying the score at 25-all.
Following Brusha's three-pointer, Brandywine was held scoreless for more than four minutes and the Monarchs netted 11-straight points to grab a 36-25 edge. King's claimed a 42-28 advantage at the break.
Little's three-pointer 90 seconds into the second period trimmed the margin to 11 points, but King's erupted for 13 consecutive points to take control of the game.
Brusha netted a team-high 11 points, while Little was named to the all-tournament team after recording nine points, three assists and two steals. Damir Shelley (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) contributed six points, four rebounds and three steals and both Isaiah Leonard (Philadelphia, Pa./Motivation) and Elijah Bryant (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) collected five rebounds.
Brandywine (1-4) will return home Tuesday to face Penn State York at 8:00 PM.
