Brandywine Rolls Past York 78-61
MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team ended a four-game skid by downing former league rival Penn State York 78-61 on Tuesday night.
Brandywine led wire-to-wire after scoring the first 10 points of the game to end a 12-game losing streak against York that dated back to 2018.
York trimmed the Brandywine lead to just six late in the first half, but Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) sank a layup and Isaiah Leonard (Philadelphia, Pa./Motivation) buried a three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer to put the Lions on top 32-21 at the break.
The visitors cut their deficit under 10 points early in the second period, but only briefly as Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) converted a three-point play and Fogg added a layup to make the count 37-23.
The Lions pulled away late, using a 14-6 spurt, fueled by 11 points from Damir Shelley (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) to build a 21-point edge with 4:04 to go. Two free throws from Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) handed Brandywine its biggest lead of the night at 23 points just over two minutes later.
Fogg contributed 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and hauled in a team-high nine rebounds, while Leonard and Shelley both tallied 14 points. Little added nine markers and Wright contributed eight.
Brandywine shot 42 percent from the field and knocked down 21 of its 28 free throw attempts. The Lions' defense forced 20 turnovers.
Brandywine (2-4) begins a three-game road trip Saturday at Gwynedd Mercy (1:00 PM).
