Little Scores 32; Brandywine Downed At Wilson 73-64
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) poured in a career-high 32 points, but the Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team was downed by Wilson College 73-64 on Tuesday night.
Little knocked down six three-pointers and shot 12-of-18 from the field overall, while adding five rebounds, one steal and one block to top his previous career-high mark of 30 points set in the team's season opener at Penn State Schuylkill . Backed by five triples, twenty of his points came during the final 20 minutes.
Alexander Derkits (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) carried the scoring load early in the game for the Lions, netting 14 points during the game's first 10 minutes to help Brandywine build a 23-17 edge.
Brandywine held a lead as large as nine points following Little's three-point play at the 6:33 mark, but Wilson answered with a 15-0 run and brought a 37-33 lead into halftime.
The Lions fought back to tie the score following Dillon Jones' (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) triple that came 90 seconds into the second period. One minute later, Little buried a three that gave Brandywine a 44-43 edge, but Wilson answered with five-straight points and expanded its lead to double figures midway through the half.
With Brandywine trailing by nine and under six minutes to play, Little converted a three-point play and added a triple 41 seconds later to get the Lions within 64-61.
Brandywine could not trim the margin smaller than three as the Lions were limited to one made field goal during the final 4:40 and Wilson secured the victory at the free throw line, knocking down six shots from the charity stripe during that time.
Derkits netted 14 of his 16 points during the opening half, while Jones added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Damir Shelley (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) contributed seven boards and three assists.
