Brandywine Fends Off St. Elizabeth In 10-Point Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine knocked down 10 first-half three-pointers en route to claiming an 82-72 United East Conference men's basketball victory over St. Elizabeth on Wednesday night.

Brandywine came out firing from long range as Joey Brusha (Abington, Pa./Abington) buried two triples and Malachi Claude (Callaway, Md./Great Mills) added a three-pointer during the first 2:45 to help Brandywine build an 11-2 edge.

Brusha's third long ball expanded the margin to 19-4 near the mid-point of the period and the lead reached 18 points when Jack Swider (Conshohocken, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) canned a triple at the 9:01 mark.

Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) caught fire during the last five minutes of the period, scoring 14 points, including a trio of three-pointers, the last of which sent Brandywine into halftime holding a 40-19 edge.

A three-point play converted by Ben Bass (Arlington, Va./Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School) gave Brandywine its biggest lead of the night at 43-19 early in the second half, but the visitors steadily chipped into the Lions' lead.

St. Elizabeth was within 15 points at the 13-minute mark and had trimmed the margin to 11 five minutes later; however, Brandywine had an answer each time the Eagles drew closer. SEU sliced the gap as low as nine points with 7:32 to play, but Dillon Jones (Wilmington, Del./Hodgson Vo-Tech) knocked down two free throws and Little followed with a triple to push the lead back to double figures.

The Eagles closed within 11 three minutes later; however, Jamar Wright (Wilmington, Del./Conrad School of Science) answered with a three ball, while Swider and Little added two free throws each over the next 57 seconds to push the lead to 18 points and help secure the victory.

Little knocked down all five of his three-point attempts, scoring a team-high 21 points, and handed out a season-high eight assists. while Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) contributed a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double. Brusha added 12 points and Jones produced a season-best 11 points.

Brandywine connected on 12-of-22 three-point attempts and made 45 percent of its shots from the field overall. The Lions limited the Eagles to 38 percent shooting, including just 7-of-24 marksmanship during the first half.

Brandywine (5-17, 2-11 UEC) will visit Penn State Abington Saturday at 1:00 PM.
