Late Penalty Kick Sinks Brandywine

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Lehigh Valley scored the match's lone goal thanks to a penalty kick late in the second half to defeat the Penn State Brandywine men's soccer team 1-0 in a non-conference match on Wednesday.

A Lehigh Valley played was hauled down in the box, allowing Jack Montesdeoca to step to the penalty spot. Montesdeoca netted the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute, just outside the reach of Brandywine keeper Braden Warwick's (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) outstretched hands.

The setback marked Brandywine's first loss to a Penn State University Athletic Conference opponent since September 19, 2015. The Lions had been unbeaten in 91-straight matches against their former conference foes.

Brandywine's top scoring opportunity came late in the first half when Robbie Warren's (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) cross found Will Keith (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), whose header was turned aside on the doorstep. Keith recorded a pair of shots on goal to lead the Lions.

Warwick made six saves, three in each half, while playing all 90 minutes in net.

Brandywine (1-3) will play three of its final four non-conference matches on the road beginning Saturday at Arcadia (3:00 PM).
