MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine earned its first men's soccer victory of the season, rolling to a 5-1 non-conference victory over Penn State Schuylkill on Thursday afternoon.
Robbie Warren (Waldorf, Md./Westlake) scored twice and added an assist, while David Kayihura (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) notched a goal and a helper. Ayobami Kuponiyi (Havertown, Pa./Bonner-Prendie) and Antonio Marcelo (Cochranville, Pa./Avon Grove) also found the back of the net for the Lions, who collected 16 shots on goal.
Warren's first marker, off a feed from Kayihura at the 16:56 mark, gave the Lions an early one-goal lead. The duo linked up again just over five minutes later as Kayihura deposited his first goal and Brandywine brought a 2-0 edge into halftime.
Kuponiyi followed his own shot and scored on the rebound during the 48th minute, while Warren registered his second goal just 2:09 later off a feed from Nick Togias (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genessee). Derek Lopez (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) assisted on a goal from Marcelo, who capped the Lions' scoring effort at the 82:05 mark.
Braden Warwick (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) and John Schild (West Chester, Pa./Delaware Valley Classical School) split time in goal for Brandywine. Warwick made a pair of first-half saves to improve his record to 1-1, while Schild stopped four of the five shots he faced during the final 45 minutes.
Brandywine (1-1) will hit the road for the first time this fall on Monday when the Lions visit Gwynedd Mercy at 7:00 PM.
