Lewandowski Spins No-No; Mushinski Tallies 200th Hit In Brandywine Sweep

MEDIA, Pa. -- April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) spun Penn State Brandywine's first no-hitter in more than two years and Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) recorded the 200th hit of her career during an 8-0 game one victory at Cedar Crest Wednesday afternoon. Brandywine hitters totaled three home runs as the Lions completed the sweep with a 13-4 victory in the nightcap.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 8, Cedar Crest 0

Lewandowski was unhittable in the opener as she twirled the Lions' first no-hitter since Mar. 12, 2024 and the 13th overall no-no in program history.

In five innings of work, Lewandowski matched a career high with 11 strikeouts and allowed just two balls to leave the infield. The lone runner to reach base against Lewandowski, who threw 54 of her 82 pitches for strikes, came on a one-out throwing error during the first inning. She set down the final 14 batters she faced in order, including the last five via strikeout. Lewandowski earned a win for the eighth time this spring.

Mushinski wasted no time in collecting her 200th hit, recording a single through the left side of the infield during the top of the first inning. She is the fourth player in the 13-year history of the program to tally 200th career knocks.

Brandywine plated four runs during the first and fourth innings to win the game via run rule. Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) led off with a single, stole second and crossed home following Emma McElroy's (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) base hit. After Mushinski's single, Ava Rodgers (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) and Shelby DeCillis (Iselin, N.J./Colonia) tallied consecutive run-scoring hits to up the margin to 3-0. Rodgers stole home to plate the Lions' fourth run.

Back-to-back RBI singles from McElroy and Mushinski upped the Lions' edge to 7-0 before Rodgers capped the scoring with a double that plated Mushinski in the fourth inning.

Bussenger, McElroy, Mushinski, Rodgers and Madie Culbertson (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) all tallied two hits for Brandywine.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 13, Cedar Crest 4

Brandywine was hitless through four innings, but exploded for 12 runs on 10 hits during the final two frames to complete the sweep of Cedar Crest.

The hosts scored twice to take a 2-0 lead in the second inning, but Brandywine got one run back in the fourth. Bussenger walked, stole two bases and scored on McElroy's sacrifice fly to trim the margin in half.

The Falcons added a run in their half of the fourth; however, Brandywine's bats came alive in the fifth as the Lions pushed across five runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs. After Culbertson tallied a one-out double, Jordan DuBois (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) tied the game with a two-run blast, her third of the season. Four batters later, McElroy launched her team-high fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot, giving the Lions their first lead of the game.

Seven more runs scored in the sixth as Brandywine put the game away. Culbertson started the frame with a triple and scored on Naya Rivera's (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) ground ball. After a two-run single from McElroy, Mushinski homered for the third time in the last five games, delivering a three-run blast.

McElroy, Mushinski and Culbertson all recorded their second two-hit efforts of the day. McElroy collected six RBI, while Bussenger scored three runs and stole a pair of bases.

Olivia Bowers (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) upped her record to 5-0 this spring with a complete-game effort. She struck out two, while allowing two earned runs.

Brandywine (19-7, 10-0 UEC) visits Delaware Valley for a non-conference doubleheader Thursday at 3:00 PM.
