Brandywine Softball Receives Five Academic All-District Awards

MEDIA, Pa. -- Five members of Penn State Brandywine's United East Conference champion softball team were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team on Tuesday. Student-athletes earning CSC All-District awards were seniors Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) and Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) and sophomores Shelby DeCillis (Iselin, N.J./Colonia), Jordan DuBois (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) and Emma McElroy (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston).
 
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and compete in at least 90 percent of their team's games. Academic All-Americans will be announced on June 16.
 
Bussenger graduated with a communications degree in May after earning a 3.54 grade-point average. She is a three-time academic all-conference honoree and was a NFCA Scholar Athlete as a junior. On the field, Bussenger set team records for games played (173), hits (243), runs scored (227) and stolen bases (189) during her four-year career. A four-time all-conference standout, Bussenger earned NFCA Third Team All-Region IV honors following the 2026 season.
 
Following her sophomore year, DeCillis owns a 3.79 GPA as a human development and family studies major. She earned her second United East Scholar Athlete award this spring and was a NFCA Scholar Athlete at the conclusion of her freshman season. Brandywine's starting catcher, DeCillis caught every inning of all 41 games behind the dish in 2026. She also batted .300 with three home runs, 15 extra-base hits and 27 RBI.
 
DuBois completed her sophomore year with a 3.54 GPA, while pursuing a degree in biology. She is a two-time United East Scholar Athlete and was a NFCA Scholar Athlete following the 2025 season. DuBois appeared in 38 games, collecting 22 hits, 22 RBI and 16 runs scored for the Lions this spring. She tied for third on the team with four home runs. 
 
McElroy has amassed a 3.94 GPA as a psychology major after two years at Brandywine. She has also earned a pair of academic all-conference awards and is a NFCA Scholar Athlete. A starter in all 41 games this spring, McElroy led the Lions in hitting with a .484 batting average and 56 hits. She topped the United East with 56 runs scored, while collecting five home runs and 43 RBI to earn NFCA Second Team All-Region IV honors. 
 
Mushinski is Brandywine's first-ever, three-time CSC Academic All-District award winner. She earned her degree in communications with a 3.68 GPA earlier this month. A member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Student-Athlete Honor Society, Mushinski is also a four-time academic all-conference honoree and a NFCA Scholar Athlete. During her four-year career, she played in 164 games, setting team records for home runs (28) and RBI (226), while batting .409 with 226 hits.
 
Brandywine softball captured its 11th-straight conference championship, including its second as a member of the United East, following Mushinski's walk-off single in the title game versus Penn College on May 9. The Lions won their final 27 games to finish the 2026 season with a record of 34-7.
