Combined No-Hitter Highlights Brandywine’s Home Finale Sweep

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine softball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep of Valley Forge, including a combined no-hitter in game two from Olivia Bowers (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Thomas) and Cecilia LaGreca (Turnersville, N.J./Wasinhgton Township), on Tuesday afternoon. Brandywine posted a pair of shutouts, winning 11-0 and 14-0. 
 
Game One: Penn State Brandywine 11, Valley Forge 0
 
Brandywine piled up 14 hits in just four inning to win the opener by run rule, 11-0.
 
Ava Rodgers (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) and Jordan DuBois (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) both recorded two hits and drove in three runs, while Madie Culbertson (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) collected two hits and scored two runs. Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) and Mila Gorres (Chesterfield, Va./Cosby) both tallied two hits and one run scored.
 
April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) fired a complete-game shutout, allowing just one hit in 5.0 innings. She struck out four to earn her 13th win of the spring.
 
Rodgers and Culbertson recorded run-scoring hits during a four-run first inning, while Mushinski added a RBI double in the second. 
 
Brandywine put the game away by scoring six times in the third. DuBois and Rodgers each singled in two runs, while Naya Rivera (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) doubled in Gorres.
 
Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 14, Valley Forge 0
 
Bowers and LaGreca combined to throw Brandywine's second no-hitter in the last week as the duo allowed just three Patriots to reach base in game two.
 
Bowers worked the first three innings, striking out two, while allowing a pair of walks. She improved to 7-0 on the season. The lone baserunner against LaGreca came via error in the fourth inning. She set down the final five Patriots she faced, including two strikeouts.
 
Brandywine needed just five hits to push 14 runs across the board thanks to 12 walks and five hit batters issued by a trio of Valley Forge pitchers.
 
Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) recorded a pair of first-inning hits, including a two-run double. Rodgers added a two-run single during a 10-run opening frame. Culbertson was twice hit by a pitch to drive in two runs and added a single.
 
Brandywine added three runs during the third inning and one more in the fourth to provide the final margin.
 
Brandywine (27-7, 14-0 UEC) closes out its conference slate Friday at Keystone beginning at 1:00 PM.
