Brandywine Collects Senior Day Sweep Of Lancaster Bible

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine celebrated Senior Day by stretching its team-record winning streak to 16-straight games after sweeping Lancaster Bible by scores of 8-0 and 13-3 in a pair of United East Conference softball contests on Friday afternoon.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 8, Lancaster Bible 0

April Lewandowski (Atco, N.J./Hammonton) limited the Chargers to one hit as she tossed her second complete-game shutout of the week. Lewandowski allowed just one base runner on a second-inning single, while striking out six Chargers, including the 300th K of her career. Lewandowski, the only player in Brandywine history with 300 strikeouts, upped her record to 11-2 on the season.

The Brandywine offense piled up 11 hits, led by three-hit efforts from Ava Rodgers (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) and Marissa Contino (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester). Lexi Bussenger (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) recorded two hits and two runs scored, while Emma McElroy (Mountainside, N.J./Governor Livingston) posted three RBI, three runs and stole a base. Kaylee Mushinski (Allentown, N.J./Allentown) knocked in a team-high four runs.

Brandywine pushed a two-out run across the plate in the first inning as McElroy was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Rodgers' base hit.

Four more runners came around to score one frame later, including a bases-clearing triple to the left-center field fence from McElroy. She later scored on Mushinski's squeeze bunt to make the count 5-0. Mushinski provided her own bases-clearing hit, a double, in the third inning to provide the final count.

Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 13, Lancaster Bible 3

Brandywine's offense continued to roll in the nightcap with five of the Lions' 13 hits going for extra bases.

Two home runs provided four of the five markers during a five-run first inning for Brandywine. Bussenger led off with a single and later scored via wild pitch to put the Lions on the board. Two batters later, Mushinski launched a two-run home run, her fifth home run in the last eight days. Jordan DuBois (Southampton, N.J./Seneca) added another two-run shot, her third in the last five days and fourth overall this spring, to push the margin to 5-0.

Brandywine continued to pour it on with run-scoring singles from Rodgers and Madie Culbertson (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) and a DuBois sacrifice fly in the second. Naya Rivera (Mays Landing, N.J./Oakcrest) led off with a triple and scored on Bussenger's double to make the count 9-3 through three innings.

Lewandowski added a RBI single to start a four-run fourth inning that put the game away for the Lions. She was one of five players with two-hit efforts in game two, joining Bussenger, McElroy, Mushinski and Culbertson.

DuBois collected three RBI, while Bussenger, Mushinski and Rodgers all drove in two. Shelby DeCillis (Iselin, N.J./Colonia) walked and scored three times, while McElroy swiped a trio of bases.

Olivia Bowers (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) upped her record to 6-0 on the spring. She tossed all five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out two.
