Kearns’ Game Winner Lifts Brandywine To 2-1 Victory

MEDIA, Pa. -- Emma Kearns (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) outraced a Pratt defender for the ball and netted the game-winning goal to lift the Penn State Brandywine women's soccer team to a 2-1 triumph over the Cannoneers on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine cleared the ball from its defensive area, sending Kearns racing down the middle of the field. She beat a Pratt defender and lofted a shot over the outstretched hands of Cannoneer goalkeeper Savannah Depaz to give the Lions a 2-1 edge during the 81st minute.

The Lions brought a 1-0 lead into halftime after scoring via own goal during the 28th minute. Hope Priemon's (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) shot was headed wide, but deflected off a Pratt defender and into the back of the net.

The Cannoneers tied the count at 1-1 just 1:46 into the second period.

Jasmin Alvarez (Tracy, Calif./Tracy) earned the win in net for the Lions. She needed to make 11 stops to claim her second victory of the fall. Kearns collected four of Brandywine's eight shots, putting two on target.

Brandywine (2-1) will look to win its third-straight game when the Lions travel to Brooklyn College Wednesday beginning at 6:00 PM.
