Brandywine Drops Non-Conference Matchup To Alvernia
MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine dropped an 84-61 decision to Alvernia in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday night.
The Lions received a career-high 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting from Jazmyn Kemp (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen). Kemp also recorded her second-straight 15-rebound game for her second double-double of the season.
Sierra Diawara (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) knocked down a trio of three-pointers and added 11 points, while Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) notched 10 points and pulled in four rebounds.
Alvernia ran out to a 9-0 lead before the Lions scored six of the next eight points, cutting the margin to 11-6 on a Kemp layup with 2:15 to go in the opening quarter. The Golden Wolves answered with an 8-3 spurt to close the first period with a 10-point edge.
Kemp sank a layup and converted a three-point play to begin the second quarter. Twenty-seven seconds later, she added another basket as the Lions closed within four; however, Alvernia outscored the Lions 9-0 during the next three minutes to push its lead back to double figures.
Alvernia held a 14-point edge at halftime and saw its lead swell as large as 19 points on three occasions during the third period. Brandywine made a final push during the last 10 minutes as Anaiyah Allen (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) sank a pair of baskets and Kemp added a layup during a 6-0 run, but the Golden Wolves answered with five-straight points and would lead by double figures the rest of the way.
Brandywine (1-5, 0-1 United East) returns to conference action on Wednesday when the Lions visit Lancaster Bible at 5:00 PM.
