Brandywine Falls In United East Second Round
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Seventh-seeded Penn State Brandywine saw its season come to a close late Saturday night as No. 3 Penn College topped the Lions 4-1 in the second round of the United East Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at the Central PA Tennis Center.
Brandywine gained its lone point on the night at No. 1 singles as Samma Zahran (Brookhaven, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) earned her 14th singles victory of the season. Zahran bested the Wildcats' Lauren Peck 6-1, 6-2 for the straight-set triumph.
Zahran also teamed with Sydney Mabry (Washington, D.C./Jackson-Reed) to win at No. 1 doubles, but the hosts claimed the doubles point after winning the second and third flights. The duo of Zahran and Mabry earned the win by a 6-1 count.
Mabry and Hope Priemon (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) both won three games during their respective singles bouts.
Brandywine finished the spring with seven victories, including a 4-5 conference mark, and won a United East Tournament match for the first time after topping Penn State Berks 4-2 earlier this week. The Lions improved their win total by six during their second season of NCAA Division III play.
