ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team was defeated 67-52 by Penn State Abington during the Lions' first United East Conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon.
Brandywine scored the first four points of the day and led 10-5 at the midway point of the first quarter, but the hosts rallied to lead 15-12 through 10 minutes.
A bucket from Raelyn Loper (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) brought Brandywine within two early in the second period; however, Abington used an 11-3 run to end the half to bring a 10-point edge into the break.
Loper notched a layup at the 4:55 mark of the third stanza to make the count 36-27, but Abington's offense caught fire as the hosts netted 18 points during the final 4:15 of the quarter to extend their lead and take control of the game.
Loper scored a career-high 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while Rayne Manson (Dayton, Ohio/Dunbar) contributed 10 points. Loper also tallied three assists and three steals.
Jazmyn Kemp (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) and Journey Handy (Delmar, Md./Delmarva Christian) tied for the team lead with seven rebounds each.
Brandywine closes out the fall semester when the Lions host Haverford for a non-conference game Saturday at 3:00 PM.
