Brandywine Runs Away From Keystone For 63-44 Triumph

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine earned its fourth United East Conference women's basketball victory of the season by routing Keystone 63-44 on Wednesday night.

The Lions used a 10-2 run capped by four-straight points from Jazmyn Kemp (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) to open up an 18-8 lead late in the first quarter, but Keystone netted the final five points of the period to cut its deficit in half.

Brandywine held a 21-15 edge two minutes into the second quarter before a Kemp layup followed by consecutive steals and baskets from Taylor Mims (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) and Cassidy Tolbert (Austell, Ga./Pebblebrook) swelled the Lions' lead to 12 points. Keystone whittled the Lions' edge in half just two minutes later, but a late triple from Analise Sierra (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) sent Brandywine into halftime with a 35-25 advantage.

After Keystone climbed back within five midway through the third stanza, Brandywine rattled off seven-straight points as Kemp contributed a pair of baskets and Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) canned a triple. The Lions held Keystone off the scoreboard for the final 4:45 of the period, extending their lead to 50-35 with four-straight free throws to close the quarter.

Brandywine controlled the final 10 minutes, leading by as many as 21 points following back-to-back buckets from Watson near the midway point.

Kemp paired 15 points with 16 rebounds for a double-double and added four blocked shots and three steals. Watson notched 11 points and five boards, while Mims chipped in 10 points and three steals. Tolbert collected eight boards and four steals and Sierra registered nine rebounds. Ashley Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) pulled in a career-best 12 boards and added nine points, while Journey Handy (Delmar, Md./Delmarva Christian) chipped in eight points.

Brandywine limited Keystone to 23 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded the Giants 60-47. The Lions outscored the visitors 32-10 in the paint.

Brandywine (4-13, 4-3 UEC) plays the second half of its back-to-back Thursday night when the Lions host Division II Wilmington University for a non-conference contest.
