Lengthy Run Lifts Penn College Past Brandywine

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn College used a 25-3 run spanning the first, second and third quarters to defeat the Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team by a score of 57-37 on Saturday afternoon.

Brandywine trailed just 13-11 after Raelyn Loper (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) sank a free throw with 60 seconds to go in the first quarter, but the Wildcats netted the final bucket of the period to hold a four-point edge. The visitors outscored Brandywine 16-3 during the second period and netted the first seven points of the third stanza to build a 38-14 edge.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 26 points with less than five minutes to play in the third before Brandywine made a charge. Ashley Robinson's (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) three-pointer cut the margin to 18 points through 30 minutes, while Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) opened the fourth quarter with a bucket to finish off a 12-2 Lions' surge.

Brandywine brought the deficit to 14 points twice before Loper sank a layup at the 6:38 mark to get the Lions within 12; however, Brandywine got no closer as Penn College scored six of the next eight points and pulled away late in the game.

Robinson led the Lions with eight points, while Loper netted seven points and Analise Sierra (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) added six points. Jazmyn Kemp (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) recorded team highs with seven rebounds and four steals and Abigail Adorno (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Lehman) handed out four assists.

Brandywine plays its final non-conference game of the season Monday when the Lions visit Penn State Berks at 7:00 PM.
