Wilson Tops Brandywine 75-58
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine women's basketball team dropped a 75-58 decision at Wilson College on Wednesday night.
Brandywine overcame an early six-point deficit by using an 11-4 spurt, aided by two three-pointers from Journey Handy (Delmar, Md./Delmarva Christian) and five points from Analise Sierra (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), to take a 17-16 lead.
The hosts scored five points during the first quarter's final 30 seconds to take a 21-17 advantage, but Taylor Mims' (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) put Brandywine back in front early in the second period with a layup.
Handy's third triple of the opening half put the Lions on top 34-31 with 2:04 to play before the half; however, Wilson scored 10-straight points to build a seven-point edge through 20 minutes.
Wilson's run continued into the second half as the hosts netted the first seven points of the third quarter. The Phoenix lead grew as large as 17 points during the third period before Jazmyn Kemp's (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) free throw capped a 9-3 Lions' run that trimmed the margin to 11.
The hosts put the game away with an 11-0 surge spanning nearly seven minutes of the third and fourth quarters that swelled their lead to 22 points with five minutes to play.
Ashley Robinson (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) led the Lions with 14 points and four steals and pulled in eight rebounds. Trinell Watson (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) added 13 points, a team-best nine rebounds and three steals, while Handy and Sierra both chipped in nine points.
