Penn St.-Abington
DEVON, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine baseball team dropped a 14-0 decision to Penn State Abington in the United East Conference opener for both teams on Sunday afternoon.
Abington scored in every inning except the fourth and collected 16 hits overall against four Brandywine hurlers. The Lions were limited to four hits against Abington pitcher James Torpey.
Brandywine's top chance to score came during the fifth inning when Jamey Massung (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) led off the frame with a double and Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) followed with a single, but a strikeout and a groundball double play ended the threat.
Snyder reached base safely twice after also drawing a walk, while Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) and Daniel Rohlsen (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) both tallied a single.
Brandywine (5-9, 0-1 UEC) and Abington square off for two more games Monday at Maple Zone beginning at 3:00 PM.
