Brandywine Comes Up Short In United East Second Round
LA PLUME, Pa. – Eighth-seeded Penn State Brandywine saw its season come to a close as No. 1 Keystone swept a pair of United East Conference Baseball Tournament second round games from the Lions by scores of 10-8 and 10-4 on Friday afternoon.
Game One: Keystone 10, Penn State Brandywine 8
Brandywine gave the Giants, who have won 20 consecutive conference championships, all they could handle in game one, but Keystone rallied to claim the 10-8 victory.
Nate Romberger (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen School) carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the eighth inning; however, Keystone sent 13 batters to the plate against a trio of Brandywine hurlers, putting 10 runs on the board.
Brandywine outhit the Giants 13-4, including a three-hit game from Noah Currier (New Castle, Del./William Penn), who broke a scoreless tie with a run-scoring single in the fourth inning.
Ivano Romaniello (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), Jason Hankins (Chichester, Pa./Chichester), Miguel Rodriguez (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) and Daniel Rohlsen (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) all collected two hits. Hankins posted a team-best three RBI, while Rohlsen stole two bases.
Fifth-inning, run-scoring singles from Hankins and Rodriguez made the score 3-0 in the Lions' favor. Currier scored via wild pitch in the sixth before the Lions tacked on four more runs in the eighth.
Rohlsen scored on Ryan Brown's (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) sacrifice fly, while Romaniello drove in David Kursman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) with a single. Hankins added two more runs with a base hit.
Game Two: Keystone 10, Penn State Brandywine 4
Keystone advanced to the third round of the conference tournament by defeating the Lions 10-4 in game two.
Brandywine pushed all four of its runs across during the top of the fifth inning. Currier started a two-out rally with a single and Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) followed with a base hit. After Brown walked to load the bases, Romaniello brought all three runners home with a double. Two batters later, Hankins delivered a single to score Romaniello as Brandywine overcame a four-run deficit to tie the count at 4-4.
The Giants scored via error during the bottom of the frame to retake the lead and added an insurance run in the sixth. The hosts put the game away with four more runs during the eighth inning.
Romaniello and Currier both tallied two hits to lead the Brandywine offense.
Snyder collected the 152nd and final hit of his four years at Brandywine. He finished his 144-game career with the fourth-most hits in program history. Brown also wrapped up his four-year career. His 143 hits rank fifth all-time at Brandywine.
Brandywine finished its second season as a member of NCAA Division III and the United East Conference with a record of 15-19-2, improving by seven wins compared to the 2025 season. The Lions won their first-ever United East Tournament game, a 7-6 victory over Wilson, earlier this week.
