Brandywine Splits With Dominican In RussMatt Finale

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Penn State Brandywine recorded a walk-off, 3-2 victory in game one, while Dominican claimed game two by a 9-2 score as the teams split a doubleheader Thursday at the RussMatt Baseball Invitational.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 3, Dominican 2

Jason Hankins' (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) two-out single walked Brandywine off with a victory to start the day in a 3-2 game one victory.

Nate Romberger (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen School) legged out an infield single and stole second to put a runner in scoring position for the pinch-hitting Hankins. Hankins tallied a single past second base, allowing Romberger to cross home with the game-winning run.

Trailing 2-0, Brody Oyloe's (Redmond, Ore./Redmond) RBI single got Brandywine on the board in the fourth inning. One frame later, Luke DeVita (Howell, N.J./Howell) doubled, moved to third on Noah Currier's (New Castle, Del./William Penn) base hit and scored on Ryan Koman's (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) groundout to tie the count.

Seven Lions recorded a hit, including Ivano Romaniello (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), who also stole three bases.

Josh Hess (Panama City, Fla./Arnold) struck out four of the seven batters he faced, including the side in the sixth inning, and earned the win. Hess pitched the game's final two frames in relief of Gianni Serenelli (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic), who fanned three and allowed two runs on four hits in five innings.

Game Two: Dominican 9, Penn State Brandywine 2

The Stars rebounded to win the nightcap after limiting Brandywine to just three hits.

Dominican's offense put runs on the board during every inning except the fourth against a trio of Brandywine pitchers.

Hankins collected his second home run of the spring, a solo shot in the sixth inning, while Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) had a hit and scored a run with a groundball in the fourth.

Brandywine (5-7) returns home to face Yeshiva on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
