Brandywine Records Third-Straight Saturday Split

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine baseball team recorded a doubleheader split for the third-straight Saturday as the Lions claimed game one of a United East twin bill by a 5-3 score before Lancaster Bible earned the split with an 18-8 victory in the nightcap.

Game One: Penn State Brandywine 5, Lancaster Bible 3

Nate Romberger (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen School) limited the Chargers to one run in 6.0 innings as Brandywine built a 4-1 lead and held on to win the opener.

Romberger yielded just four hits and struck out one to even his record on the season at 2-2.

Brandywine got on the board first with a pair of fourth-inning runs. Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) led off with a double and scored on Will Collison's (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) single before Jason Hankins (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) lifted a sacrifice fly that allowed Ivano Romaniello (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) to cross home.

LBC got a run back during its half of the fourth inning, but Romaniello answered with a two-run double in the fifth to make the score 4-1.

The hosts plated two runs and had the game-tying run at second base with one out in the eighth inning; however, Josh Hess (Panama City, Fla./Arnold) came out of the bullpen to retire the frame's final two batters.

Hess allowed the first two batters to reach safely in the ninth inning before setting down three-straight Chargers, including a pair of strikeouts, to record his third save of the season.

Brown was 3-for-5 at the plate and scored two runs, while Romaniello notched two hits and two RBI.

Game Two: Lancaster Bible 18, Penn State Brandywine 8

Three home runs were not enough for the Lions as Lancaster Bible hit two long balls of its own and earned a split with an 18-8 game two victory.

Brandywine loaded the bases with one out in the first inning for Hankins, who launched a grand slam over the left field fence, his third home run of the season.

Collison went deep twice, hitting a two-run home run in the third inning and a solo shot in the seventh. His two-home run effort was the first by a Lion since Cam Baughman homered twice vs. Northland on March 7, 2023.

Lancaster Bible got its offense going with a six-run second frame and took the lead for good with a marker in the third. The Chargers put a combined nine runs on the board during the sixth and seventh innings to put the game away.

Collison was 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Hankins posted two hits and drove in four runs.

Brandywine visits Penn State Harrisburg Tuesday for a 3:00 PM game.
