Offense Powers Brandywine To Fourth-Straight Win

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine recorded a season-high 18 hits as the Lions topped Valley Forge 12-5 in a mid-week United East Conference baseball tilt, pushing Brandywine's win streak to four-straight games.
 
All nine starters collected at least one hit for the Lions. Ryan Snyder (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), Will Collison (Chesapeake, Md./Queen Anne's County) and David Kursman (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) all produced three-hit games. Ryan Brown (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem), Jamey Massung (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) and Jason Hankins (Chichester, Pa./Chichester) recorded two hits each. Hankins also drove in four runs, while Snyder and Collison both scored three times.
 
The scoring started in the second inning for the Lions as Massung doubled and crossed home following Hankins' single, tying the score at 1-1.
 
Brown singled in Snyder before Hankins cleared the bases with a two-base hit, putting Brandywine on top 5-1 through three innings. Snyder scored another run in the sixth following a Collison base hit before Collison crossed home via wild pitch.
 
The Patriots plated to runs during the sixth inning to trim their deficit to 7-5, but Brandywine put the game away by scoring five more times one frame later. Luke DeVita (Howell, N.J./Howell) delivered a two-run single and later scored via error, while Collison knocked in Snyder with a single and crossed home thanks to a wild pitch.
 
Jackson Messick (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley) earned his first win after limiting Valley Forge to one run on two hits. He struck out three in four innings of work. Noah Walker (Bremen, Ga./Bremen) and Josh Hess (Panama City, Fla./Arnold), two of Brandywine's four relievers who toed the mound, both recorded a scoreless inning. Walker struck out two in the eighth inning and Hess fanned one during the ninth.
 
Brandywine (9-10, 3-2 UEC) is back in action Thursday to face John Jay for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 PM.
