Defense, Three-Point Shooting Lead Brandywine Past Gallaudet

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team connected for 13 three-pointers and held an opponent below 50 points for the first time in nearly 10 years as the Lions rolled to a 70-48 triumph over visiting Gallaudet on Tuesday night.

Ahmaar Godhania (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) knocked down five triples en route to scoring a game-high 17 points, while Corwin Holland II (Bowie, Md./Rock Creek Christian) and Jack Swider (Conshohocken, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) both canned a trio of triples. Swider notched 13 points, while Holland, Isaiah Johnson (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) and Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) all tallied 11 points.

The Lions shot 13-of-30 from beyond the arc and made 41 percent of their field goal attempts (24-58) overall.

Defensively, Brandywine allowed just 28 percent shooting to the Bison, including a 8-for-35 mark during the final 20 minutes. Brandywine limited an opponent to fewer than 50 points for the first time since Dec. 5, 2015 when the Lions topped Penn State Beaver 61-48.

Brandywine led wire-to-wire after opening the game with a 10-2 run, capped by a Godhania triple. The Lions' lead reached double figures for the first time at the 10:44 mark when Holland canned a three-pointer and the margin reached its largest of the first half following another Godhania three with 6:15 on the clock that made the count 26-14.

The Bison answered with a half-ending 12-5 run to climb within 31-26 at the break.

The second half belonged to Brandywine as the Lions outscored Gallaudet 39-22. Brandywine put the game out of reach with a 17-0 surge spanning 4:17. Fogg got the run started with a jumper before Godhania netted five consecutive points. Holland and Fogg later connected for back-to-back triples, while Holland capped the run with a fast-break layup at the 12:28 mark, making the score 53-30.

Brandywine controlled the remainder of the contest, leading by as many as 26 points when Swider knocked down a triple with 8:55 to go.

Bryan Warren (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) aided the offense with a game-high six assists, while Javon Nelson (Philadelphia, Pa./String Theory) collected a team-best six rebounds.

Brandywine (3-6) will have a 10-day layoff before opening conference play on Saturday, December 6 at Penn State Abington (1:00 PM).
