Brandywine Secures Postseason Spot In Rout

MEDIA, Pa. -- The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team will be going to the postseason for the first time as a NCAA Division III member after the Lions routed Penn College 84-58 on Saturday to secure a United East Conference Tournament bid.
 
Brandywine improved to 8-2 in conference play with three games remaining by winning its fourth-straight contest. 
 
The Lions committed a team-record low three turnovers on the day, while forcing 22 Penn College miscues. Brandywine did not commit its first turnover until fewer than seven minutes remained in regulation.
 
Corwin Holland II (Bowie, Md./Rock Creek Christian) led 11 Lions in the scoring column with 25 points as he knocked down five three-pointers. Ja'bri White (Townsend, Del./St. Mark's) poured in 13 points, while Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) added 11 points. Fogg and White tied for the team lead with seven rebounds.
 
Brandywine broke the game open early, leading by 20 points just 15 minutes into the opening period. Jack Swider (Conshohocken, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) and Fogg recorded back-to-back layups before Fogg and Ahmaar Godhania (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) connected on consecutive triples during a 13-3 Brandywine surge. Austin McCaughan (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) capped a the run with a free throw, making the count 39-19.
 
The Lions held a 46-27 advantage at the half and never let the Wildcats get within striking distance during the final 20 minutes. Holland sank a layup to finish off a 14-4 spurt that gave Brandywine is largest lead of the afternoon at 74-45 with 8:26 to go in regulation.
 
Swider added nine points and four boards, while Godhania posted six points, three rebounds and three assists. 
 
Brandywine netted 32 points off of Penn College's 22 turnovers and outscored the Wildcats 42-26 in the paint. The Lions shot 41 percent from the field and received 31 points from their reserves.
 
Brandywine (13-9, 8-2 UEC) hosts Penn State Harrisburg Wednesday at 5:30 PM. The Lions trail Harrisburg by one game for second place in the United East standings.
