Brandywine Battles Division I Mount St. Mary’s
EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team battled Division I Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon, falling 73-42 in an exhibition game.
The Lions trailed 34-13, but found their scoring touch during the final four minutes of the opening period. Brandywine outscored the Mountaineers 13-5 to close the half with a 13-point deficit. Isaiah Johnson (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) sank a layup, while Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) buried a three-pointer and Jack Swider (Conshohocken, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) added a pair of triples. Damir Shelley (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) beat the first-half buzzer with a jumper to make the count 39-26 through 20 minutes.
The first 13 minutes of the second half belonged to the hosts as the Mountaineers outscored Brandywine 23-4. Ahmaar Godhania (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and Corwin Holland II (Bowie, Md./Rock Creek Christian) combined for a trio of three-pointers during the span of 1:21, but Mount St. Mary's continued to hold a commanding lead during the final seven minutes.
Holland, Godhania, Johnson, Little and Swider all produced six points to pace the offense. Johnson grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Swider handed out three assists.
Ten of Brandywine's 14 made field goals came from beyond the arc. The Lions pulled in 12 offensive rebounds, but the Mountaineers held a slight 38-33 edge on the boards.
Because Brandywine played the game as an exhibition, statistics do not count toward team or individual totals for the season.
Brandywine (6-6, 1-0 UEC) will play its second-straight game against a Division I opponent on December 30 when the Lions return to Maryland to face Morgan State at 6:00 PM.
