Brandywine Cruises To 27-Point Triumph
PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team won for the fourth time in five conference outings, rolling to a 78-51 victory at the University of Valley Forge on Tuesday night.
Brandywine shot better than 50 percent (29-57) from the field and recorded assists on 16-of-29 baskets. The Lions dominated inside, outscoring the Patriots 40-16 in the paint.
Corwin Holland II (Bowie, Md./Rock Creek Christian) knocked down a trio of three-pointers and led the scoring effort with 15 points. Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) both produced 12 points, while Ja'bri White (Townsdend, Del./St. Mark's) notched nine points. Bryan Warren (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) and Isaiah Johnson (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) both poured in eight points.
Brandywine broke the game open midway through the opening half thanks to an 18-3 surge spanning more than five minutes. Fogg produced six points during the run, while Little, Holland and Javon Nelson (Philadelphia, Pa./String Theory) all sank a three-pointer. Nelson and Holland canned triples on consecutive possessions to cap the run, giving Brandywine a 29-13 edge with 6:27 to play in the period.
The hosts trimmed the Brandywine lead as low as 10 points, but the Lions outscored the Patriots 9-3 during the final 2:10 of the half. Brandywine took a 42-24 advantage into intermission when Holland beat the buzzer with a three.
Warren and Little opened the second half with back-to-back buckets to increase the lead to 22 points. The Lions were never tested during the second stanza, pushing the margin as large as 28 points during the game's final minutes.
Holland topped Brandywine on the boards with eight rebounds, while Fogg grabbed seven boards and blocked three shots. Johnson also pulled in seven rebounds. Little and Austin McCaughan (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) both handed out four assists.
Brandywine (9-8, 4-1 UEC) travels to Baltimore for a matchup with Notre Dame of Maryland Saturday at 1:00 PM.
