Brandywine Holds Off Schuylkill For Third-Straight Win

MEDIA, Pa. -- Penn State Brandywine built a 13-point, second-half lead and had to fend off a late Penn State Schuylkill charge as the Lions held on for a 60-50 non-conference men's basketball victory on Wednesday night.

Corwin Holland II (Bowie, Md./Rock Creek Christian) led the Lions' offense with 18 points after knocking down five three-pointers. Ja'bri White (Townsend, Del./St. Mark's) filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots, while Bryan Warren (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) notched seven points and a team-high nine rebounds. Jack Swider (Conshohocken, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) added nine points along with six boards and Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) tallied eight points, four assists and two steals.

The teams were tied 10-10 before Holland, Warren and White combined for nine-straight points in the span of less than 90 seconds to push Brandywine in front. Schuylkill closed within three, but Swider knocked down a triple and Warren added a layup to make the Lions' lead 28-20 at the half.

Brandywine netted the first five points of the second period as the margin swelled to 13 points; however, the Lions' offense went cold as Schuylkill erupted for a 22-5 run to vault in front.

Warren ended Brandywine's cold spell by converting a three-point play at the 6:49 mark. Holland and Little followed with back-to-back triples to give the Lions a 47-42 edge.

Schuylkill trimmed the margin to three, but Swider canned a three-pointer, while being fouled and knocked down the ensuing free throw with 3:11 to play that made the count 54-47. White put the game away with a steal and fast-break dunk with 59 seconds to go.

Brandywine overcame 17 turnovers by knocking down 11 triples and held Schuylkill to 30 percent shooting from the field. The Lions recorded an assist on 14-of-20 made baskets and maintained a 45-37 edge on the boards.

Brandywine (5-6, 1-0 UEC) looks to win its fourth-straight game Saturday when the Lions host St. Elizabeth at 1:00 PM.
