Brandywine Falls In Overtime For Second-Straight Day
ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team was defeated in overtime for the second consecutive day, falling 90-84 at Elmira on Sunday afternoon.
Brandywine, which dropped its third overtime game of the season, overcame its largest deficit of regulation, rallying from eight points down with less than three minutes to play to force an extra five minutes.
Jack Swider (Conshohocken, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) started the rally with a three-pointer at the 2:28 mark and Ja'bri White (Townsend, Del./St. Mark's) converted a three-point play 37 seconds later to get the Lions within two. A layup from Corwin Holland II (Bowie, Md./Rock Creek Christian) knotted the count at 73-73 with 55 seconds to go.
Both teams had opportunities to go in front during the final 45 seconds, but came up empty during each of their final two possessions.
The game was closely-contested throughout, featuring 10 ties and 12 lead changes.
Brandywine held a 37-36 edge at halftime and led by as many as six points (50-44) at the 14:32 mark of the second period.
The teams were tied at 61-all following a bucket from Javon Nelson (Philadelphia, Pa./String Theory) at the 6:14 mark. Elmira netted 12 of the next 16 points to build a 73-65 lead fewer than three minutes later, but the Lions scored the final eight points of regulation to send the game to overtime.
The Eagles scored the first nine points to control the extra session. Elmira upped its lead to 13 points before Brandywine netted the final seven to provide the final margin.
Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville) scored a team-high 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting, while Holland paired 14 points with 10 rebounds. White added 15 points and Damir Shelley (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) totaled nine points, four boards and four assists.
Brandywine (2-6) will play its ninth and final game of the month Tuesday when the Lions host Gallaudet at 7:00 PM.
