Brandywine Earns Conference-Opening Road Win

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Penn State Brandywine men's basketball team earned a 72-63 United East Conference-opening victory at Penn State Abington on Saturday as the Lions started league play with a win for just second time since 2017.

Brandywine stormed out to an 11-0 lead behind Corwin Holland II (Bowie, Md./Rock Creek Christian) and Ahmaar Godhania (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), who combined to make a trio of three-pointers during the game's first 2:50.

The Lions' early lead stretched to 16-4 when Jack Swider (Conshohocken, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian Academy) buried a triple at the 12:44 mark, but the hosts chipped away at Brandywine's leading, climbing within five by halftime.

Abington netted the first bucket of the second half, but the next five minutes belonged to the Lions, who seized control of the game behind a 15-0 surge. Five scorers contributed a basket for Brandywine during the run, including a three-pointer from Godhania and three-point plays by Ja'bri White (Townsend, Del./St. Mark's) and Jaden Fogg (Morrisville, Pa./Morrisville). Fogg's putback tip-in and free throw made the count 47-29 with 14:39 to play, the Lions' largest lead of the day.

Brandywine maintained an 18-point edge with just over eight minutes to play following a layup from Holland, but Abington mounted a rally. The hosts trimmed the margin to 10 points with 5:35 on the clock before Amari Little (Ellicott City, Md./Marriotts Ridge) countered with consecutive layups.

Just over three minutes later, Abington was within seven; however, the Lions used the free throw line to hold on for the victory. Brandywine knocked down nine-of-10 free throws during the final 120 seconds to claim the win.

Holland led three double-figure scorers with 16 points, while Godhania contributed 11 points and Little chipped in 10. Fogg produced nine points, 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots and Swider tallied nine points and nine boards.

Both teams shot 36 percent from the field, but Brandywine held Abington to 0-16 shooting from beyond the arc and recorded a 43-36 edge on the boards.

Brandywine (4-6, 1-0 UEC) will look for its third-straight win on Wednesday when the Lions host Penn State Schuylkill at 7:00 PM.
